185! I just about made it. I’ve lost 15% of my bodyweight since I started. 15%! That’s crazy. I hope Kenny has a chance to weigh-in this week.

Next week my weigh-in will be from America, as I am visiting home in person to collect my prize.

The weight I gained in week 8 came off within just a couple days of returning to my diet. I’m on the verge of making my newest goal of 185 lbs. When we started this contest, I would have never thought it would be possible for me to get down to 185. Now it looks like I may even make it into the 170s.

It looks like FatBrother Kenny is back! I can’t wait to see his weigh-in tomorrow. He’s been gone for 3 weeks, so I have no idea if he’s kicking ass, falling apart or keeping a steady pace. Stay tuned for his weigh-in in the next day or two.

Last Sunday I had a bad weigh-in. I gained 4 lbs from the previous week. I looked at my food journal and sure enough the culprit was bad eating.

My wife and I went out to eat 4 times that week. When we eat out, I have trouble controlling my portion size. We even ordered pizza one night for the first time in a long time (it was freezing outside and we didn’t want to go grocery shopping). I also ate snacks: Valentine’s candy, a cookie here and there (not more than one or two a day, but they add up), sugary cough drops, cheese. I had started drinking a mug of cocoa everyday. I also missed some workouts so it’s really no surprise I gained weight.

Once I nailed down the reasons for my weight gain, I put myself back into line. Thank you food diary! It is so easy to correct mistakes when you can see the causes for them clearly, plainly and in chronological order on paper. I am more careful of my eating now.

A new thing I’ve started doing is to do a few rounds of Bas Rutten every morning on an empty stomach (after weigh-ins). It gets me started with a little sweat in the morning and I’ve heard that doing a little bit of cardio on an empty stomach is good for burning fat (can someone confirm if this is true?). It also has the nice side effect of waking (and warming) my (cold) sleepy fat ass up. It takes less than 10 minutes to do 3 rounds. I think this will be a new staple of my routine.

Anyway, to get to the point, I am back on track. My unofficial weigh-ins yesterday and this morning were below my weigh-in two weeks ago. It’s almost as if last week didn’t happen.

Kenny’s going down.

That’s quite a gain, but I’m not worried. Last week was busy and I had few opportunities to workout. Couple that with a weak will to bad food and you have a bad week for weight. It won’t happen twice in a row though! Next week I will be back in good form! See you then.

Btw, Kenny has now missed two weigh-ins and he hasn’t replied to any of the emails I sent him. I think he is intimidated by my power. Will he miss his third weigh-in in a row? Sadly, I think you can count on it. But we’ll see.

I credit this success to my as-of-yet unnamed secret weapon which I will be revealing soon. My bodyfat % only went down a tenth of a percentage, probably a direct result of the ice cream and cake I’ve been eating. I need to work on that. The problem is that I don’t have access to any weights for strength training. Maybe I should do pull-ups instead?

I’m making Swedish pancakes again this morning. After that, I hope to cool it down on the bad food front for the entire week. Wish me luck!

Although Kenny skipped week 6 weigh-ins, which is clearly against the rules of the competition, I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt. Stay tuned for his week 7 weigh-in within the next 24 hours.

This week I didn’t eat so well. Maybe I got overconfident with my large lead in the contest, maybe I subconsciously felt I was losing weight too fast or maybe I was just weak-willed this week - but for whatever reason, I ate like a pig.

First, on Monday I made Swedish pancakes for breakfast. The recipe calls for 6 eggs, 1 cup of flour, 1 cup of milk, 1/2 cup of sugar, a little butter and lingonberry preserves. I ate half of them and my wife ate the other half.

Then Valentine’s Day rolls around and my wife baked me a chocolate apple cake. It was awesome. I also got some little chocolates (I didn’t eat them all, but I ate some).

Today was a nightmare. We went to the mall and I ended up eating a double scoop waffle cone from Baskin Robbins. Then we had tacos for dinner and I ate 6 of them. Six tacos was the portion size I used to eat before I started losing weight!

I hope the scale is nice to me tomorrow morning.

Wow! What a great week! I have no idea where it came from either. I skipped out on my workouts for 4 days (Sunday through Wednesday) due to my cold and my diet was pretty constant.

Looking back at my food/weight journal, I can see that my weight stayed constant from Sunday to Wednesday when I wasn’t working out. When I did my first workout after my sickness (seven 3-minute rounds of Bas Rutten’s Mixed Martial Arts Workout on Thursday), my weight the next day was down a whole kilo (2.2 lbs). Then Saturday morning, after Friday’s secret weapon workout, I was down an additional 1.4 kg (3.1 lbs)! That’s the most weight I’ve lost in a single day since the start of the competition (the previous high being 0.7 kg). I don’t know what happened, but I’ll take it!

And furthermore, I’ve crossed my second weight milestone of 195 lbs! My next goal is to reach 185 lbs and challenge Anderson Silva for the UFC Middleweight title. If I succeed in making it there, I will have lost over 15% of my total body weight! See you there!

This week I’ve been sick with a cold. It’s not the kind that keeps you in bed all day, but it definitely sucks and has taken its toll. On the workout front I was out of commission for a few days and I wasn’t able to take advantage of my as-of-yet unnamed secret weapon. My weight is still down, probably a result of a lessened appetite, but I much prefer being well.

Today I felt much better, good enough to workout and employ the above mentioned secret weapon. I hope I’ll be fully recovered in time to hit the mountains tomorrow.

Does anyone know of a good way to get a workout in when you are sick?
