Thomas’s Official Jan. 6 Weigh-in
By Thomas | January 6, 2008
I live in the future in Japan, so it’s already Sunday morning. According to our Rules, that’s weigh-in time. Here are my results.
96.2 kg and 22.6% body fat. 96.2 kg translates to 211.6 lbs. If I’m doing my subtraction right, that’s 6.6 lbs lost since the start of the competition!
The mountain work, Japanese diet and giving up snacks completely really worked for this first week. But I can’t get too comfortable. I was lucky that the competition started during the Japanese New Year holiday. I’ve been off from work this past week, so I had plenty of time to devote to mountain work.
I start work again on Tuesday. I think hiking in the mountains will be impossible for weekdays from now on. It’s dangerous to hike at night. It’s easy to get lost and its so dark that you can’t see your path well. Big rocks that you don’t see can twist your ankle and put you on the sidelines. Then there are the wild boars and the bears. I’m going to have to find another way, at least for weekdays.
And another picture has been added to my gallery. I don’t see much difference yet, do you?
Tune in for Kenny’s official weigh-in within the next 24 hours.

WOW TOMMY WTF??? Now that’s some progress! I’m calling BS on your intitial weigh-in. Were you holding a 10 lb weight or a big turtle or something? Damn- good job. I quit. No wait…I changed my mind. I CAN see a difference in your pics…that damn blue bag moved a little. Pick up your house you slob!!!

The initial weigh-in is legit. I think this just shows how many chocolate and Coke calories I was putting into my body before now :).
I’ve been eating really well the past week and I’ve been to the mountain everyday. I’ve been taking pictures of meals and stuff and will probably start to do a weekly post about what I ate the past week.
And the blue bag is actually there for a reason. The house is actually picked up pretty well. But the homes in Japan are really small, so you have to learn to compartmentalize. That blue bag actually contains the battery chargers for our cell phones and our digital cameras.
As far as seeing changes in the pictures, I just checked my other shots (sides, back, arms raised) and you actually *can* see a significant difference, especially in the back and side pictures. I’m going to add some more picture pages later so I can post them all.

Congratulations, Thomas! You’ve inspired me not to eat candy for breakfast. I shall go for a 2-mile walk, then have something nutritious for my first meal of the day. Could it be that this blog is the answer to my weight loss prayers?
Keep up the great work!

Hey Tom, is there a comments RSS for this blog?

@Kathy: Thanks! I definitely recommend not eating candy for breakfast.
I’ve been eating fruit (mandarin oranges mostly) and soup for breakfast. I still get to taste something sweet, and it’s better for me than pancakes. I’m happy to know this blog is helpful to you. Thanks for the comments!
@Peter: It does now. I added a link over to the right below the big RSS button.

@Thomas: According to lifehacker.com, oranges burn more calories in digestion than they give you. There’s quite few other foods like this also: http://lifehacker.com/software/food/fifteen-foods-that-burn-more-calories-than-they-contain-331319.php

Oops, nevermind. Maybe I should read the comments in the links that I post before I post them. =)

@Peter: I guess no comment :). BTW, I need you to help me figure out what’s wrong with the db.

Dude- that article is golden! I love it. I found a discussion that refutes it though. Oh how I love the world of nutrition info on the web.
